GEKO ~ Probing The Gash In Her Head 7"E.P. posted by FRANKKUBB

Special Thanks to http://fritzdiesspinne.blogspot.com/ for the link and story Geko were a female duo formed in Los Angeles in the late 80's. They released this 7" EP on red vinyl in 1991. It's tough to find pertinent info online info, but a Last.FM comment states: Reviewers have called the music “fluid, dark, beautiful, ethereal, erotic, hypnotic… tough sounds that combine to create an introspective experience.” Tracks: 1. Mary Loves the War Zone 2. I Never Knew Any of This 3. Nameless 4. When We Were Very Young here http://www.mediafire.com/?0njzmm5tmtz

Hell Comes To Your House Vol. 1 posted by FRANKKUBB

Time Bomb

This compilation, recorded in 1981, is the SoCal equivalent of Flex Your Head, the classic DC hardcore compilation. Early tracks from Social Distortion and Red Cross (later Red Kross), as well as the lesser known but equally influential 45 Grave and Christian Death. Other bands include Legal Weapon, Modern Warfare, Secret Hate, Conservatives, 100 Flowers, Rhino 39, and Super Heroines. Why did some of these bands go on to be legends and others fade into obscurity? Fate is fickle, as they say. Reportedly recorded for $550 dollars, this is a great example of the DIY ethic that evolved into today's thriving indie record scene. Every fan of old school punk should own this. Time Bomb, 219 Broadway #519, Laguna Beach, CA 92651

Dracula's Ball w/Lords of Acid, Thrill Kill Kult 7/31 Philadelphia,PA RE-posted by FRANKKUBB

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Saturday, July 31st and includes live performances by My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and Lords of Acid as well as turntable techniques displayed by DJ Mighty Mike Saga, DJ Blackwidow and DJ Xris SMack!

All ages are welcome (21+ w/photo ID to drink). Tickets are $16 and are on sale now at Ticketmaster, IsoTank.com and Digital Ferret CDs. Those with advance tickets are admitted into the club first, and are guaranteed a place inside should the event be sold out. Ticket sales for this event have been brisk and we recommend buying tickets as soon as possible. At this time, we consider it unlikely that tickets will be available on the day of the show.

Dracula's Ball takes place at Shampoo Nightclub in Philadelphia, on Willow Street between 7th and 8th Streets. The club has a large enclosed parking lot which is free, but it does fill up early during Ball events. Doors open at 9pm and the event ends at 2am. In addition to live bands, there are 3 DJs on 3 dancefloors, vendors, candy and door prizes. The official DB website can be found at: http://www.draculasball.com/

The day before the Ball, Projekt Records is holding their ProjektFest event in Philadelphia. If you're coming from out of town, it's yet another good reason to make a weekend out of your Philly trip. ProjektFest features performances by Nicki Jaine, The Twilight Garden, Unto Ashes, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, and Voltaire and tickets are $10; it's also an all-ages event. You can even get a FREE ticket by buying just one Projekt CD from Digital Ferret CDs or IsoTank. For details, see: http://www.projekt.com/festival/

Screams For Tina 'Strobelight Funeral' 1986

FROM WIKI

Screams for Tina is a dark wave rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985 by Marvin Rinnig (guitar) and Warren Mansfield (vocals, bass, keyboards).

The duo recorded a 12” EP Strobelight Funeral in 1986, which was distributed in both the United States and Europe. Reviews of their music have cited influences ranging from Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy and Joy Division, to the Psychedelic Furs among other, similar post-punk and gothic rock-related bands of the 1980s. “Deathrock” was another term frequently used by critics when describing their early sound.[1]

English bassist Billy Budd and local drummer Bobbi Drier were added in 1987 and the completed band became regular performers at local, underground scene clubs The Krypt, Scream, Zombie Zoo, Hapihaus, Obituary, Helter Skelter, as well as more legitimate, mainstream venues i.e., The Roxy and the Whiskey Au-Go-Go.

In 1988, the L.A. Weekly entertainment newspaper held a citywide Rock Music Awards poll. Final vote tabulation placed Screams for Tina in the Top 5 of the Best New Band and Best Underground Band categories, as well as in the Top 10, for Independent Album.[2].

The year 1990 saw the exit of the original guitarist, who was replaced by Kent Bancroft. Like Wreckage / Spahn Ranch. By 1992, the band had caught the attention of Cleopatra Records president, Brian Perrera, who subsequently included the band’s song Eleven Eleven on a new compilation CD alongside previously established artists The Whip, in 1993. This led to the release of the band’s first, and best-known full-length album Screams for Tina. The CD ranked among Caroline Distribution’s top 50 selling albums during its month of release. It was subsequently licensed to Talitha Records in Germany, for distribution outside the U.S.A.

From 1993 through 1996, the band continued to perform live and could be heard on various genre-related compilations through 2001. In 1998, the group disbanded. It was revived again in 2002 when their friends in the Austrian band Kiss the Blade, invited them to be on their new label Strobelight Records. Scream For Tina’s two remaining members, Billy Budd and Warren Mansfield, signed an interim deal and the label released a new 4 song EP 2003 A.D. that included songs written and recorded after the breakup.

As of 2008, the band is still active in both recorded and live performance capacities.

Voo-Doo Church "Red Vinyl E.P.'

In 1981, Voodoo Church released the legendary and long out of print self-titled EP. To this day, the EP is highly sought after by Deathrock fans worldwide. It all started when Tina Winter put her drum set away to play bass and sing with a few friends. This was the birth of Voodoo Church but it took a few band member changes until the right sound was found. With this perfect line up, Tina was able to create her own sound and the band then quickly went into the studio to record the four song EP while a number of successful shows followed.
After a long hiatus, Tina decided it was time to get the band back together and went on a search for new members. In 2002 Voodoo Church marked its long awaited return with an incredible show in front of an amazing crowd. In 2004, the long awaited Voodoo Church CD is finally here. The band members are Tina Winter, Randall Cole, Brian Elizondo and Tony Havoc.

Tina Winter has spent time in England studying music while mostly playing drums and bass guitar. She found her calling when she took over the vocal duties for Voodoo Church and produced a band that created Deathrock History. Her biggest musical influences are The Cure, Siouxsie and recent artists such as Marilyn Manson.

Randall Cole has had formal piano training but switched to guitar when he started up a punk band in the mid 80’s. Years later a fascination with bass took over and he hasn’t looked back ever since.

Brian Elizondo has been playing guitar forever and is quite a natural. He understands that the music of Voodoo Church is more about the feel and the energy instead of showing off technique.

Tony Havoc has had a successful run in Fear Cult but his drumming career isn’t over yet. His unique style, drum tuning and song writing makes him the perfect fit for Voodoo Church.

Voodoo Church’s goal is too keep evolving their sound, while embracing the darkness.
